Construction of dual-active data centers in tertiary hospitals

project overview

The current computer room in the old campus was built in 2016. It currently houses multiple core business systems, including “HIS”, “LIS”, “EMR”, and other medical business systems. The increasing business demands higher and higher requirements for the IT data center. Therefore, the data center needs to provide the required computing, network, and storage resources more quickly. If new servers and storage are constantly purchased, it will increase procurement costs and operation costs, and also bring more expenses for business power supply and data center cooling. At the same time, there is no remote data redundancy protection. When unexpected logical failures or physical failures of the data center or equipment occur, data will be lost, and in severe cases, it will cause business to be suspended for a long time. IT personnel face complex management among different devices when performing operations.

project requirement

Build the most mature, reliable and forward-looking hospital information system infrastructure platform for the medical industry. Through this project, upgrade and construct the data center of the west hospital area, and achieve the following goals:
Technologically advanced: Widely applied in hospitals of the same industry and scale;
Safe and reliable: Provide 7*24-hour uninterrupted service capabilities, achieve high-level business continuity;
Excellent performance: Provide high-speed data processing capabilities for core business systems, improve overall performance;
Disaster recovery system: The disaster recovery system can ensure zero data loss and enable business systems to recover quickly; Advanced system architecture: Can meet the needs of the hospital’s rapid development in the future;
Operation and maintenance management: Improve management efficiency, make daily operation and maintenance more convenient and efficient, and be able to quickly locate and solve system emergencies.

Improvement in business efficiency

The performance of the VxRail system has increased by 3 to 4 times compared to the original platform. Both the I/O rate and response time have undergone a significant improvement. The system operates stably, the front-end business is not interrupted, and the disaster recovery data is synchronously updated normally. There has been no occurrence of system collapse or data loss.

Reduction in system complexity

The VxRail hyper-converged solution incorporates the industry-recognized and mature VMware virtualization software, enabling the IT department to establish a dynamic infrastructure that can automatically adapt to business needs. This reduces system complexity by 80% and allows IT personnel to focus more on business innovation.

IT operation and maintenance costs have decreased by 41%

IT personnel can complete the process from turning on the machine to creating a virtual machine within a few minutes, easily deploy the virtual machine, and perform uninterrupted patching and upgrades with just one click. The data center is easier to maintain. VxRail not only integrates storage, computing, and networking resources together, but also all services are provided by Dell EMC. The complexity of operation and maintenance has been greatly reduced.

Improvement in the reliability of the data center platform

VxRail integrates a variety of data protection functions, which can fully protect the data of customers and the security of virtual hosts. Among them, the stretch cluster function can quickly build a disaster recovery cluster, which can be deployed in the same data center or between different data centers in the future, achieving disaster recovery between two locations and enhancing the availability of the data center platform. At the same time, the solution also integrates the RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines data protection solution. The solution can provide local and remote replication in the virtualized environment of VMware, enabling rapid recovery for virtual machines and allowing recovery to any point in time, truly achieving continuous protection of business data.
