Computational science, theoretical science and experimental science are all regarded as the three main pillars of human understanding of nature. They mutually support each other and jointly promote the development of science and social progress. In many cases, when theoretical models are complex or theoretical frameworks have not yet been established, or when experiments are expensive or impossible to conduct, computation becomes the sole or primary means to solve the problem.
Many large-scale tasks cannot be solved using small commercial systems; they can only be addressed through High Performance Computing (HPC) systems. HPC has extensive applications and significant influence in computational science and engineering in research, government, industry, and defense.
HPC refers to computers capable of handling large amounts of data and performing high-speed computations that are beyond the capabilities of ordinary personal computers. It usually splits large-scale computing tasks and distributes them to various servers for parallel computing before aggregating the calculation results to obtain the final outcome.
